One particular feature that is missing from the praised Mac OS X is a built-in weather app. Fortunately, you can find many solutions to fill this gap. A good example is Meteorologist, which provides you with an on-screen weather forecast at all times. Whenever you need to step out or plan a trip, you can just glance at the upper right corner of the screen to see the weather conditions.

The application displays the current temperature and humidity for a city of your choice, on the menu bar. Clicking the city's name will reveal additional information about the current condition, as well as a forecast for the next three days, in a series menus and sub-menus. You can also find an option for looking up the city on weather.com and a radar image, in the same menus.

Meteorologist provides a city editor and various customization controls on a tabbed window. You can use the city editor to add new cities, choose which one to display on the menu bar and what measuring units to use. Furthermore, the application can be set to include specific weather details for each city.

Although it displays a single city on the menu bar, Meteorologist can cycle through the cities and update their information every few minutes. Another advantage is the possibility of setting up alerts. If the weather conditions change in one of the added cities, the application may display a message, play sounds, send emails or SMS messages and perform other actions, depending on your settings.

Pros

Meteorologist provides easy access to the current weather conditions for any city in the world. It can be set to play and display alerts when the weather conditions change. Also, the application comes with many customization options.

Cons

The possibility of displaying other details in the menu bar, like the wind speed, would be a welcome addition. Thanks to Meteorologist's straightforward design and functionality, all the information you need about the weather is just a few clicks away.
